Adding a Pause or Wait Command in a Cell Phone Dialing Sequence

On a cellular device, instead of dialing a phone number, and then entering an extension or selecting menu options when prompted, you can use commas or semi-colons to create pauses or a wait in the dialing sequence. Each comma entered creates a short pause in the dialing sequence. You can use multiple commas to create longer pauses. For example, if you need to call 1-800-123-4567, then enter extension 901 when prompted to reach a specific department or person, you can enter "18001234567,,,901" on your cell phone. When dialed, your phone calls 1-800-123-4567, pauses for roughly six seconds, then automatically proceeds to enter 901 for the extension.

To insert a “pause” or a “wait” command on any Sunbeam device, move to saved contacts, select the number that you wish to add a “pause” or “wait.” Press the “star” key to rotate through the available punctuation options. Four presses will place a semi-colon which inserts a “wait.” Five presses will place a “comma” which inserts a one second “pause.” Two commas will insert a two second pause and so on.

Position the cursor at the place in the phone number that you wish to add the “pause” or “wait.” A “pause” will interrupt the dialing sequence for the specified amount of time and then complete the sequence. A “wait” will stop the dialing procedure and display a message on the screen asking if you wish to proceed with the rest of the dialing sequence. The user will need to acknowledge this message before the phone will complete the dialing sequence.

The same procedures can be used while entering a new contact to be save for future use or while making a call.
