- Make sure the ring volume is turned on by tapping the top volume key. You can also switch the phone between vibrate and ring modes by long pressing the # key.
- Confirm Do Not Disturb is turned off by swiping down from the top of the home screen. The Do not Disturb icon should be greyed out.
- Open System > Settings > Audio Settings > Tones and Volume > make sure a phone ringtone is set. To set the notification sound, tap Advanced > Default notification sound.
- Turn the phone off and back on again.
- Check if your phone has the latest Firmware Updates installed.
- Check if the speaker has failed on your phone by placing an outgoing call and turning on the loudspeaker.
- Finally, here are a few more things to check that can cause this problem:
Make sure a Bluetooth device is not connected to your phone as the sound may be playing through the Bluetooth device instead of the phone speaker.
Make sure you do not have call forwarding turned on for this phone number.
If the problem only occurs for certain messages, check if the conversation is muted in Messaging. Muted conversations will have a small bell icon.
